Last week we looked at the importance of authentic faith and it goes very nicely with this week’s topic Health Behaviours and Positive Life Choices. We already know the scripture Faith without works is dead, but as we saw from last week as Christians we tend to focus on only one half of the equation, Faith.
I love how the AMP says it:
So too, faith, if it does not have works [to back it up], is by itself dead [inoperative and ineffective]. (James 2: 17)
Without 'good' works to accompany it, faith in itself produces no results. It bears no fruit. Click To Tweet
It is possible to be too spiritual when it comes to working out our salvation, but the Bible reminds us in many subtle ways of the importance of our choices and actions. For example, in Proverbs we are invited time and time again to get wisdom and choose instruction. The Biblical definition of wisdom is the application of knowledge, in other words, the working out of what you know. It is definitely NOT enough to sit on what you know, squeeze your eyes tightly and hope that your faith will somehow produce the results you desire.
Many Believers struggle with finding the right balance or dose of faith and works, it’s really easy to jump to the other extreme and take on the mantle of El Shaddai for yourself. Don’t kid yourself here, faith needs works and works needs faith in order to bear fruit.
The Bible invites us again, if we struggle with wisdom to ask YHWH for it and He will liberally provide it for us because He wants us to act out our faith. He wants us to work out our salvation.
I could probably write on and on about this topic, but I want to share an edited version of a video I created last year which I think adds nicely to this topic.
