Nobody likes the word earn, it conjures up images of hard work and slogging to get what you want. I get it, but, as I sat in stillness before the busyness of the day I thought about all the things that I want to experience and do in my life and once more it dawned on me…
You need to earn what you desire.
This is not a new message from me because I’m not talking about getting somewhere or achieving something by works. I’m actually talking about something that a lot of people shy away from… facing the truth that is holding them back.
Most people want things in their life (unless you’ve totally given up on it) but the vast majority aren’t willing to do anything more than want.
This is because going after what you want requires facing some things about yourself, your life, your experiences that you’d rather not face or deal with.
It requires you to be willing to face old or maybe some new demons that you’ve been hiding from.
The thing is those things highlight the story that we have been telling ourselves, the “I can’t do this because… (you fill in the gap)”.
When you have told yourself the same tale for so long it becomes hard to believe let alone do anything contrary.
Achieving what you desire isn’t as difficult as it seems, the only thing that really stops you is your willingness to get past those stories.
It requires you to make decisions and take actions that you’ve been avoiding because you’ve been afraid of the consequences.
That’s what I mean by earning your desire.
You earn what you desire through the inner work that takes you from the person you are today to the person who has stepped into the fear and moved through it because their mind’s eye is set on what is on the other side.
I know that this can be big and scary, in fact, it’s not meant to be easy, that’s why what you desire has to be earned. It’s something valuable and precious that is gained only by the person who wants it enough.
The next step that you need to take may not look as obvious as you want it to, it may go against what your “plan” is but, don’t write it off.
That is one of the tricks of opportunity. It has a sly habit of slipping in by the back door, and often it comes disguised in the form of misfortune, or temporary defeat. Perhaps this is why so many fail to recognize opportunity. (Napoleon Hill, Think and Grow Rich)
I don’t think I ever really got that quote until today.
God gives us opportunities to move towards what we desire every day, they often come disguised in the sense that they don’t fit our plan or our short-term wants so we make a decision that leads us away from it.
Most of this is fear-based decision making based on those old rules and stories that you’ve been narrating for most of your life.
It might sound harsh, and whilst I don’t mean to be, it is a harsh reality which keeps people stuck in places that they don’t need to be for longer than they need to be simply because they are too afraid of stepping into that disguised opportunity.
I’ve often wondered why so many people have an outwards desire to change their life or transform their thinking but then when an opportunity arises they don’t, it used to frustrate me before but now I realise that they are just not ready to step into the fear and stop believing their story. The fear keeps them looking for the short-cut, The Secret that will enable them to go as they are from here to there. It keeps them in a lie that isn’t God’s best for them.
If this post is ringing a bell for you, you are closer than you realise, in fact, you are just one decision away from getting close to what you desire.
Are you willing to face that fear?
This is the time when you do need to get honest with yourself and ask yourself those tough questions like “what is fear making me unwilling to do even though I know this will move me closer to what I desire?”
For different people, this may be different things, but really, I mean really think about it. It’s often not the most obvious answer, maybe it is, but you just dread it so much that you’ve been running from it.
I don’t know, but I bet you do.
And if you don’t know or if you want help with stepping into that fear and moving through it, I would be honoured to help you, just reach out.
PS. I’m starting the Mindset Mastery Bookclub in September,
let’s kick off by reading Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. Whilst it’s mainly used as a money mindset book, I believe that there is so much more to glean from it so I’m excited to see what comes out. You can register to join me here.
PPS. Remember, the life that you truly desire doesn’t have to be that difficult to achieve, it’s the decisions that we make that take us further or closer from it.
