My heart jumps in my chest and I feel queasy in my stomach every time I share the breast lump story because it reminds me of how vulnerable and helpless I felt at the time, it’s still such a raw experience for me.
But it was also the Biggest gift and a wake-up call that I could have been given.
It gave me greater insight and awareness of how precious life is and why it’s paramount that we do our very best to live it as fully as we can every day no matter what.
One of my mentors had a near death experience and he said that at first, it didn’t change him, even though he spent ages in the hospital when he came out he went back exactly to the way things had been for him. He thought that with such a wake-up call that his life should have changed, but it didn’t.
I think most people think that a wake-up call should be enough to wake you up, but how many times in your everyday life do you push the snooze button on your alarm just to get a little more extra shut-eye?
You see the two things don’t necessarily correlate.
As he found out there was something more needed to change his life and he discovered it and now he is a multi-millionaire teaching others how to transform their lives.
I know very well that when God gives us a gift we don’t always accept it, we’ve got so many examples of this. We have the gift of salvation, forgiveness, faith and even the gift of abundant life all there ready and waiting for us.
But something still holds us back.
I believe it’s fear.
Fear is like the invisible monster under the bed.
We have some kind of awareness that it’s bad and even though we’ve never seen it we can visualise what that future image looks like in our mind’s eye.
Did you know both fear and faith are both about believing in the unseen?
But most of the time we believe fear more than faith. That’s sad, isn’t it?
So what are the options?
Fall into the group of people that hit the snooze button and continue on sleeping through life or wake up?
If you’ve chosen to wake up – CONGRATULATIONS!
But the truth is that whilst it’s a simple fix, it’s not an easy one.
I mean, it requires at the very least effort on your side.
If you’ve ever had a wake-up call you’ll know that with all the best intentions in the world, it’s not a guarantee that your life will suddenly change and that’s where my new mantra comes in.
Fight your Normal.
As I mentioned, I have a mentor that I’ve been following for years and I’ve heard his story so many times. The funny thing is that even though he had a near death experience, on recovery he still went back to the exact same life that he had led. He expected and wanted things to be different but they weren’t because even though he had gone through the experience, he wasn’t different, well not in the areas that he really needed to be anyway.
Things started to change for him when he began to fight his normal. He needed to change what he had been doing, how he had been living and how he had been thinking up until that moment.
Once he did that, things began to fall into place for him.
Not many people realise that you have to fight for the life you really desire to live, unfortunately, within Christendom, we kinda expect that it either falls into our laps just because we are Christians or that faith alone gets us there.
#TruthBomb That’s not HOW it works.
The people who struggle the most in life are those who are under the false illusion that you can continue on just as you are and the world will bend to your will.
You have to not just be prepared to fight your normal but you HAVE to fight it because there are things which are already in opposition to your forward movement and growth.
There are at least 4 things you need to fight:
- Your own false complacency – the subtle belief that you are OK as you are and that you don’t need anything to change when deep down inside you really ARE NOT OK with how things are.
- Your biology and habits – because even if you fight your complacency most people who get that far get pulled back by habits and how those habits have transformed not just their thinking, but their emotions, body and neurochemistry too.
- And let’s not forget your Environment – because we are a part of a wider ecosystem everything has a knock on effect on everything else, that’s why when you want to change suddenly drama or chaos erupts from nowhere to push you back into your “rightful” position.
So you can see that there is a real need to fight because there are so many things that are coming against us pushing us back into our normal.
Watch out for my next post where I share the fourth thing we are fighting and what to do about it or watch the full training below.
