Here’s what I’ve discovered about faith and works.
Faith isn’t about how much you pray or even how much you’re believing God for something.
Works isn’t about taking “faith-aligned” actions either.
Let me share an example with you. I recently heard of a women believing on God for a husband and then going out and buying her wedding dress.
Some people applauded this as her having faith and displaying works but to me, it isn’t because she’s taken the road of least resistance and effort.
it’s so much easier for her to continue praying on God and telling Him about the money she just spent on her wedding dress, it’s so much easier for her to point it out to people who may be doubting her as the evidence of her faith than to actually do the REAL work that needs doing.
What’s that? Working on herself.
Because if the husband doesn’t come it’s not her fault, it’s God’s fault or it’s because there are no good men out there.
She didn’t really look, not really. She stayed in her comfort zone and gave a cursory glance around.
She didn’t put herself on the line, she didn’t make herself vulnerable or stand to lose anything at all.
She wasn’t 100% committed and her actions showed it.
What would happen if she was to step out of her comfort zone?
What would happen if she was to actually work on herself, touch herself up, put herself out there and allow herself to BE SEEN and HEARD?
Why then she would have to face her inner voice, her fears, doubts, insecurities and all the negative self-talk that she’s been running away from.
Which means in order to move past it, she would have to do the REAL work on her mindset and heart set that has resulted in the reality that she no longer wants to live in.
To me REAL faith requires you to die to self, to put to death all those fears and doubts that stop you taking bodaciously bold faith-aligned actions because deep inside you, there is just no space for a Plan B.
Until we get to that place we won’t produce the kind of fruit we are looking for.
I mean, if you were to really believe that it could happen for you, why wouldn’t you put your whole self on the line?
