There are now so many books, bible studies and sermons on how to renew your mind and it’s a beautiful thing
If you have read or read my story now, you’ll see that the reason why I am where I am today is because of the inner transformational and personal growth journey I have been on. But I’ve discovered something, a growing awareness that when it comes to the process of renewing our mind we’re often looking for the answer in the wrong place. Even when we approach Christian mindset work we are often focused on knowledge, that’s why Christian Mindset books are so popular now. We want to know information such as the exact steps or the blueprint that will help us transform our thinking and renew our minds but that’s not where the answer is.
Every time I have broken-through in life, it’s because my mind has been renewed in some way; and because my mind has been renewed, I have been transformed. I am no longer the same person I was before, and it wasn’t an awareness of the steps that helped me get that breakthrough because a lot of the time I was ignorant of them. No, what helped me was exposure to the truth, so that the very cells in my body and my neurons were transformed. When my level of consciousness increased, a more Christ-like version of myself was revealed and I was able to step into more
I didn’t realise it then, but as I said, this happened as a result of exposure to the Truth. The Truth I mean here is the Truth of God’s Word. When we open up our Bible to read especially when we are going through difficult times or we want an answer, we can open it up to look for information or knowledge and yes, we can definitely find that there but there is also so much that is hidden in plain sight. Only with the hindsight of what I know about language now do I recognise how much the Bible is full of NLP and hypnotic language patterns.
The Bible is the Definitive Book of Language, it contains life-changing Words both spoken and unspoken that change and shape our beliefs. And when you stop and think about it, it’s no wonder because God is the Creator of Words and Language. God created our amazing brain which scientists call the most powerful super-computer in the world in such a way as to receive the food that it needs to flourish, the Word of God. Amazing right!?
Every time you read the Bible you may come across words of comfort or encouragement, words of wisdom or words that challenge you but, these words are not just words. These Words have flesh and bones, they have Spirit and Life and they have the ability to wash our minds and renew them.
A few years back when I first started blogging I wrote a post called 2D vs 3D Words, God was leading me even back then to see that we’re not just reading words when we read the Bible, we are reading Life – there is depth, and height and breadth and length to these words in other words, there is more than meets the eye.
So you might be questioning how this works especially if you’ve been reading the Bible but still feel like there are blocks and beliefs that need to be dealt with.
The first thing to do is recognise that you’re probably right, our mind wouldn’t need renewing if it hadn’t been corrupted in some way already. The reason our mind needs to be renewed is because we have been in a place of conforming to the things of the world for so long. As I always say, hypnosis is all around us, from the moment we know ourselves as a separate entity the different parts of society work to socialise us into their norms and values (and yes this even happens within church communities). And because we want to fit in, because we want to be loved and accepted, we conform.
All of your current beliefs are a by-product of this, designed to keep you “safe” in terms of fitting in, being accepted, valued and loved. Everything you take in through your senses is passed through the filter of the beliefs that you have formed based on your life experiences. When you read the Bible you’re not reading it with pure eyes and even with a pure heart but through the filter of your mind’s eyes (worldview).
And God knows this already, we can see it in how the people of Jesus’ time were blind to who He was, they had eyes but they couldn’t see the Truth and so they couldn’t be set free.
So God reveals His Truth to us in degrees as our mind can be open to receive it. The more we read His Word the more we are exposed to Truth but don’t get me wrong there are people who can read God’s Word from morning to night and still remain relatively unchanged, they have a hard heart. In order for this renewing, transformation and restoration work to be done in us there are a couple of things we need to do on our end:
- We need to desire the Truth above all Things
- We need to be willing to leave old things behind
- We need to have a soft, open and willing heart
- We need to be like little children
Oh there’s so much more I can say about this but I don’t have enough space or time, but just know that God wants to renew your mind. He wants to heal you in all the ways that matter so that you can live a full, abundant life and do the good work He has set aside for you to do.
So hopefully you can see that the way to renew your mind and transform your thinking is already embedded within the Bible. This idea excites me and now I understand why words have always been such a powerful draw for me and now I get to work alongside God to help people shift their beliefs and renew their minds to live the life they envision and achieve their God-goals. Amen.
Scriptures and Positive Affirmations on Renewing your Mind
In my post above I’ve touched on a few themes and scriptures on renewing your mind. These are great scripture verses to meditate on and I have included a positive affirmation under each one for you to reflect upon or use in your everyday walk.
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.(Romans 12:2, BSB)
I am being transformed by the renewing of my mind and I am able to discern God’s perfect will for my life.
And have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.(Col 3:10, BSB)
As I continue to put on my new self, I am being renewed more and more each day in the knowledge of who I am in my Creator.
And to be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.(Eph 4:23-24)
The spirit of my mind is being renewed and I am being transformed to be like God.
And we all having been unveiled in(2 Cor 3:18, BLB)
face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image, from glory to glory, even as from the Lord, the Spirit.
Every day in every way I am being transformed into the image of YHWH, who is Spirit.
We tear down arguments, and every presumption set up against the knowledge of God(2 Cor 10:5)
; andwe take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
I tear down every argument or high things that tries to rise up against the Truth, and I take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ.
He reveals the deep and hidden things; He knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with Him.(Dan 2:22)
God reveals deep and hidden things to me, he reveals the hidden things of my mind and sheds His Light upon them.
Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.(John 8:32, BSB)
Because I know the truth, I am set free in Jesus.
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.(2 Cor 3:17)
I am in liberty and freedom because I dwell within the Spirit of God.
For God has not given us a spirit of cowardice, but of power, and of love, and of self-control.(2 Tim:1-7)
I have self-control. I am bold, I am brave, I am powerful and I am love. The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead dwells within me and is working a good, transformative work within me.
Now we see but a dim reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.(1 Cor 13:12)
My vision is getting clearer and clearer, my knowing is getting clearer and clearer as I shift and transform.
For we walk by faith, not by sight.(2 Cor 5: 7)
It is so easy for me to walk by faith and not by sight.
Set your minds on the things above, not the things on the earth.(Col 3:2)
I choose to set my mind on the things above because they are more real and valuable to me than the things of this earth.
